December: Winter Arrives at Our Doorstep

Arboriculture experiences a slight slowdown in December due to colder temperatures. Many people mistakenly believe there is nothing to do for their trees during winter. However, December is still an excellent month for many tree-related tasks.

Although most plants remain dormant during the cold months, you can take advantage of milder December days to visually inspect your trees. Take the time to look carefully, even at higher branches, you may notice anomalies that were hidden by foliage during the summer.

You can also perform some light pruning. You might be surprised to learn that several deciduous tree species respond well to pruning in December. Additionally, summer-flowering shrubs such as lilacs and hydrangeas can also be trimmed.

To prevent snow from deforming your conifers, wrap them with twine.

If snow accumulates on your small trees and you can safely remove it, do so! They will greatly benefit from it.

If you can still install winter protections to prevent damage, don’t wait and do it as soon as possible! Snow removal is also an important consideration.

Enhance the beauty of your trees with colorful lights during the holiday season.
