Tomography

Advanced Technology for Total Peace of Mind

Engineer assessing the integrity of a silver maple

Understanding the internal health of a mature tree is essential for safety. Arboquébec is proud to offer cutting-edge Acoustic Tomography, a non-destructive diagnostic tool that provides an unparalleled view of your tree's internal structure. This technology allows us to determine with scientific certainty if a tree is structurally sound, saving you from unnecessary removals or unexpected failures.

"Arboquébec: Your partner for healthy and safe trees."

How Sonic Tomography Works

Our system uses a non-invasive method called Sonic Velocity Analysis. By placing sensors around the trunk, we measure the speed of sound waves traveling through the wood.

  • Healthy Wood: Sound waves travel quickly.
  • Decay or Cavities: Sound waves slow down or divert.

This process creates a detailed 2D or 3D tomogram, a color-coded map of the trunk's interior, without ever harming the tree's protective bark or cambium.

Precise and Understandable Results

Tomograph result compared with the interior of the tree

The resulting tomograph provides a precise visual representation of the degree of wood degradation or hollows. This data-driven approach helps you make informed decisions based on facts rather than guesswork. It is the gold standard for:

  • Detecting fungal infections invisible to the naked eye.
  • Assessing the residual strength of high-value or historical trees.
  • Managing risk in high-traffic areas (near homes, schools, or walkways).
