March: Spring Begins to Smile at Us

Arboriculture experiences renewed activity in March as temperatures become milder. Winter is gradually retreating, making way for spring. This month is ideal for tree care tasks as plants slowly awaken.

Early March is the perfect time for fruit tree pruning. Ideally, pruning should be done before the buds open, and it is possible to continue until April.

There’s still time for a visual inspection of your plants. Take the opportunity to look thoroughly, as you may spot issues that will soon become harder to detect once leaves start growing.

If branches were broken or damaged during winter, take the necessary action. If heavy snow has accumulated on your trees and you can safely remove it, do so! Your trees will appreciate the help.

By late March, consider removing winter protective coverings.

Take some time to enjoy a sweet treat with family and visit the majestic sugar maples that provide Québec’s beloved national treasure.
